Swansea vs Manchester City Predictions
Swansea couldn’t have hoped for two more difficult matches this week, with them facing Manchester City in the League Cup and then again in the Premier League just three days later.
The League Cup fixture saw Manchester City rest quite a few key players as the likes of Leroy Sane, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Jesus Navas got a run out. It didn’t stop them from winning the match 2-1 though, although an injury to Vincent Kompany on his return from a long spell on the sidelines left a bitter taste in the mouth of the visitors.
This continued Swansea’s poor start to the new season. This defeat made it two wins, one draw, and four losses for them in all competitions this season. Their only win of the Premier League so far came on the opening day of the season against the newly promoted Burnley, and since then they have lost to Hull, Leicester, and Southampton and drawn with Chelsea.
Manchester City will have a much stronger squad out this weekend as well, which will do nothing good for Swansea’s chances. Sergio Aguero is back after a three match ban and will be hoping to add to his three Premier League goals. The striker is in lethal form and has nine goals in all competitions already.
They haven’t exactly struggled without him though. Pep Guardiola has led his new team to nine straight victories since the beginning of the competitive season, and they have only got better with time.
Their last five matches have seen them score 15 goals and concede just three, including victories over Manchester United and Borussia Monchengladbach. Away from home they have beaten Steaua Bucharest, Stoke, Manchester United, and Swansea this season, scoring 13 goals and conceding three.
Five of Manchester City’s nine games this season have seen them win by more than a single goal margin, and those that didn’t include a trip to Old Trafford, a home match against Steaua Bucharest which had already been won, and a League Cup fixture against Swansea where they fielded a weakened team. Odds of 2.025 for a Manchester City -1.5 Asian Handicap Win look excellent value to me, so I’m backing that along with a 3-0 correct score prediction at 9/1.
