Struggling Marseille heading for another defeat

Marseille narrowly missed out on a top-four position in Ligue 1 last term, but they have not looked anything like one of the French top flight’s leading lights so far this season. 

The Phocaeans have lost five games on the bounce, and while there was no disgrace in the scoreline of a narrow 2-1 loss to PSG last time out, there were some major defensive concerns. 

Bruno Genesio’s men conceded a huge expected goals total of 5.09 against the French champions and that followed allowing four goals in a 4-1 Europa League loss to Besiktas. 

Those are worrying performances and results and Marseille may lack the answers to turn things around. 

The Phocaeans have attempted to strengthen their squad, but Mason Greenwood and Quinten Timber departed in the summer and Genesio has been left with a regressive and thin roster. 

A trip to Troyes does not look an easy task for a side in such poor form, and while the home side have their own issues to address, the price is there to take a pop on ESTAC.

Stephane Dumont’s men have lost three games on the spin, but they have won at Lorient and played fairly well in a 0-0 home draw with Paris FC. 

ESTAC are not a top-level team, but they are bigger than 3-1 to beat a struggling Marseille side and that is too big.
