Twente vs PSV Reserves Predictions

Things are looking quite congested at the top of Eerste Divisie. With the top three all dropping points on Friday evening, Twente have a chance to go joint top of the league on Sunday when they take on Jong PSV at De Grolsch Veste. Marino Pusic’s side will start strong odds-on favourites in Enschede, but can they prevail to join Go Ahead Eagles, Almere City and Sparta Rotterdam at the head of affairs?

Cambuur’s defeat to Roda JC and NEC’s draw with Go Ahead Eagles on Friday means things have really concertinaed at the business end of Eerste Divisie, and only three points currently separate the top seven sides in the race for automatic promotion.

Twente sit 6th and bang in amongst those teams heading into Sunday’s game with Jong PSV, and victory over Dennis Haar’s men will see them go level on points with co leaders Go Ahead, Sparta and Almere, who all sit pretty following Friday’s match day seven fixtures.

Twente will be expected to see off their opponents who’ve had a fairly underwhelming start to the campaign after a fine 5th place finish last term. That being said, if Jong were to turn their current eight point tally into 11 this weekend, it would be good enough to lift them from 13th into the top half.

Sunday’s hosts are difficult to oppose though – they’ve won four of their last five outings in all competitions and go into match day seven in great spirits after seeing off Eredivisie side Groningen 0-2 in midweek to progress to the next round of the KNVB Beker.

And aside from their shock 1-2 home defeat to FC Oss on match day four, Twente have been pretty impressive so far on their return to the Dutch second tier, notching four wins and a draw from six outings, including victories at De Grolsch Veste against fellow promotion rivals Roda JC and Sparta Rotterdam.

The defeat to Oss proves though that you have to be nigh on flawless in this division to grab the only available automatic promotion spot, but you do get the feeling that Twente could really press on if they can go joint top this weekend.

A second slip up of the season here against Jong PSV is simply out of the question for boss Marino Pusic, as his side squares off against the Eindhoven reserve outfit for the first time.

Jong’s mixed start to the season and performances so far indicate that they’ve taken a step backwards from last term; however their brave effort away to NEC in a 4-4 thriller two weeks ago shows they can be dangerous to underestimate.

Nonetheless, their display at home to Volendam last week was well below the standard required to get anything here (despite the fact they won that game 1-0), and in continuation from 2017/18, they’ve struggled in general for success on the road this term, with that draw at NEC their only point from three away matches.

We’re backing Twente to win this one with both teams to score. Twente have conceded in their three games at De Grolsch Veste this season whilst Jong have scored in all of their away games, despite their lack of points. This should be an entertaining clash, and it’s 3-1 for us in favour of the hosts.
