Udinese vs Chievo Predictions

Udinese are searching for a return to form, after a four-game winless streak. They have fallen to just a point above the drop zone, which has left them worried. This weekend is a chance to turn things around, as the Zebrette prepare to face off with the league’s bottom side. Chievo are struggling to get back into the race for safety, and after a tough first half of the campaign, it’s tough to see the Gialloblu coming away from Sunday’s trip with all three points – after failing to win away all term.

The hosts are down in 16th, they’re coming off another defeat at the weekend. A 1-0 loss to Torino left them narrowly above the drop, with some of the sides below them starting to display some form. It’s been a season full of concerns for Udinese, who have made some smart moves in their push to stay up. They turned to a manager with a reputation for fighting battles like this, but so far he’s hardly got a response out of his side. Surely he can inspire them to victory against the league’s worst side?

Chievo have spent the full campaign down in the lower reaches of Serie A. Three managers have tried and failed to get them off the bottom now. The Gialloblu are set for a drop to Serie B, with just nine points to their name from their opening 23 matches. With five draws and six defeats from their 11 away league games this season, it is tough to expect much from the visitors in this encounter.

This isn’t a game which is likely to open up into a high scoring affair. Chievo (seven) and Udinese (six) are the two sides with the fewest goals scored in the opening 45 minutes of Serie A games this season. Their low scoring ways have continued throughout games. Just 43% of Udinese’s matches have seen both teams score, while Chievo have failed to score in 45% of their trips so far this season.

The Gialloblu have managed just eight away goals in 11 matches, with the majority of their league games seeing under 2.5 goals. Udinese have averaged less than a goal per game at home, with fewer than three goals being scored in 67% of their home matches. With three of the last four encounters between these two finishing with no more than two goals scored, we’re going with under 2.5 goals as our tip in this clash, with Udinese to edge out Serie A’s bottom side.
