Uruguay vs Peru Predictions

Uruguay are set to host Peru at Estadio Centenario in an international friendly this weekend. This will be the second meeting between these two sides in 2019. These sides met as recently as June, in the 2019 Copa America quarter-final. Uruguay were knocked out of the competition in a penalty shoot-out that day, after a 0-0 draw.

Uruguay’s exit from this past summer’s Copa America will undoubtedly be on their mind ahead of this weekend’s clash and they will be hoping to get the consolation prize of avenging that loss. However, Uruguay will be missing some key members of their squad for this game.

Uruguay’s 3 highest-scoring active forwards, Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez, and Cristhian Stuani are all absent from the squad for this international break which will leave Uruguay looking very under-strength up-front.

The highest goal-scorers present in the Uruguay squad are Diego Godin and Jose-Maria Gimenez. Uruguay’s center-back pairing have scored 8 goals each throughout their international careers. While Uruguay’s center-back pairing will present a real threat from set-pieces, Uruguay are clearly lacking fire-power for this game.

One of Suarez, Cavani, or Stuani have scored 8 of Uruguay’s 20 goals in 2019. One of the three have assisted in another 2 of Uruguay’s 20 goals. This means that one of these 3 strikers have directly contributed to half of Uruguay’s goals in 2019. This is a significant portion of their goals, and this highlights the importance of these 3 players.

Peru will also be short of some attacking quality. Peru’s second all-time top goal-scorer, Jefferson Farfan, will also miss this game due to injury. However, Peru captain and all-time top goal-scorer Paolo Guerrero will be with the Peru squad.

We feel that Uruguay will miss the presence of Cavani, Suarez, and Stuani. All 3 of those players were present for Uruguay’s Copa America quarter-final loss to Peru in June which finished goalless in normal time. We feel that Uruguay will find it tough to break down this Peru side without those players.

Peru have been in impressive form of late. They made it to the final of the 2019 Copa America. They have also kept a clean sheet in 3 of their last 5 games. On top of that, they have beaten Uruguay in their last 2 meetings with them. We feel that Peru, draw no bet is a good market to look at for this game.

There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Uruguay’s last 4 games. As well as that, Peru have scored under 1.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 games. We feel that this game will be a low-scoring affair and predict that a 1-0 win for Peru could be a likely result here.
