Vancouver Whitecaps vs DC United Predictions
Vancouver Whitecaps suffered a 3-1 defeat away at Portland Timbers last time out and as a result, remain rooted to the bottom of the Western Conference table. DC United ended their run of three games without a win last weekend when they edged out LA Galaxy 2-1 at Audi Field.
DC United’s recent record against their hosts and the overall performance of both clubs this season suggests that the visitors are best placed to claim all three points this weekend, especially if Wayne Rooney makes his return to the DC United side as predicted. Vancouver Whitecaps sit bottom of the Western Conference while DC United are third in the Eastern Conference and there is a 15 point gap between the pair heading into Sunday’s match.
Rooney has scored 23 times in 43 MLS games for DC United since joining the club and is credited with ‘reviving’ the entire franchise since making the move to the MLS, so a return for the former England captain on Sunday would give the visitors a huge confidence boost. DC United would have already been looking forward to this match as they have won their last four games against Vancouver Whitecaps, home and away, and we should expect lots of goalmouth action between the pair as three of their last four encounters have produced over 2.5 goals and two have seen both teams score.
Neither side can claim to be the form favourites as Vancouver Whitecaps have lost four of their last six matches and their guests have lost three of their last five, but DC United did win their last game against LA Galaxy 2-1. Both teams scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in four of Vancouver Whitecaps’ last five and four of DC United’s last six matches, another reason why we are expecting goals for both teams in Sunday’s clash.
We’re confident that DC United will win on Sunday and have predicted a final scoreline of 3-1. Rooney’s return, if it does indeed happen, will make all the difference to DC United this weekend as the former Everton man adds creativity as well as goals to the side. DC United will be looking to continue their great recent record against the Canadians, making it five wins on the trot, but expect Vancouver Whitecaps to score as DC United have only kept one clean sheet in their last six attempts.
