Verona vs AC Milan Predictions
- Verona have lost their last four matches in a row, leading them to sack coach Gabrielle Cioffi after just nine league games at the helm.
- Milan, meanwhile, have won four of their last five league matches.
- The Rossoneri have taken eight points from four away league games this term, posting back-to-back wins at Sampdoria and Empoli.
Beleaguered hosts face Rossoneri challenge
Gabrielle Cioffi’s ill-fated tenure as Verona coach is over after just nine Serie A games, with the club opting to hand Salvatore Bocchetti his first senior management role following a four-match losing run. Bocchetti, who assisted Igor Tudor at Verona last term, could hardly have asked for a more difficult start to his tenure, as Serie A champions Milan visit the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi.
Verona’s defensive woes spelled the end for Cioffi, as the former Udinese boss failed to oversee a single shutout in 10 matches in all competitions. Verona’s tally of 17 league goals conceded is worse than all but that of Cremonese (19) this season, and they have shipped two goals in each of their last four matches. Concerningly, Verona have lost the expected goals (xG) battle in seven of their nine Serie A outings this term, and they should see Sunday’s match as a free hit.
Milan have won four of their last five Serie A matches, the exception being a home loss to Napoli last month. The Rossoneri have yet to lose on the road in Serie A this term, posting back-to-back wins at Sampdoria and Empoli in their last two, and have been good at responding to setbacks this season. Stefano Pioli’s men have lost three games in all competitions this term, and after responding to the first two with victories, will look to put Tuesday’s loss to Chelsea behind them.
Milan can maintain road record
Given Verona’s dreadful form and the instability engulfing the club at present, backing Milan to make it three away league wins on the spin seems a no-brainer for Sunday evening’s game.
Meanwhile, both teams have scored in six of Milan’s last nine games, and in seven of Verona’s 10 outings this season. Backing Pioli’s men for a 3-1 away win could offer value for correct score punters.
