Villarreal look well placed to advance through to the last 16 of the Europa League after claiming 2-0 victory during last week’s first-leg with Salzburg in Austria.

Unai Emery’s side should certainly be feeling confident, as they have only lost once on home soil this season, a run of 15 matches, while they won all three of their games at the Estadio de la Ceramica during the Europa League group stage.

However, the Yellow Submarine’s recent home form has been a little more inconsistent, as they have only won one of their last five games on their own patch, failing to keep a clean-sheet in any of those matches.

Salzburg’s away record is impressive, as they have won five of their last six matches on their travels, including a 3-1 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow during the Champions League group stage.

Indeed, Jesse Marsch’s side have scored in all four of their European away matches this season, a sequence that includes games against Champions League holders Bayern Munich and defensive specialists Atletico Madrid.

We are predicting Salzburg to extend that scoring run on Thursday, but our overall prediction is for Villarreal to go on and win the match and ultimately seal their passage through to the last 16.
