Vitoria vs Botafogo Predictions
Vitoria sacked coach Vágner Mancini after last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat against Flamengo which saw them drop into the relegation zone. Their decision to replace him with Argel Fucks looks an inspired one on the evidence of his first game. He led his new side to a 1-0 win away at Internacional, the team he started the season in charge of. As a result, Vitoria moved above Inter in the table and can move up a further few places if they can win this one.
Botafogo are in pretty good form though with 5 wins from their last 7 league outings, however, it didn’t quite go to plan in midweek. A 1-0 home defeat against a Santos side that tends to struggle on the road has just dented their revival. Both these sides came up from Serie B last term but Botafogo have adapted better and currently sit in 11th place, 7 points off the top four and 7 points above the bottom four. They’d almost certainly have settled for a mid-table finish on their return to the top flight and although there is still work to be done, they shouldn’t really need to worry about what’s going on below them with 35 points already on the board.
This game is a tough one to call as Botafogo have been a bit unpredictable in recent weeks. So far this month they’ve been beaten 5-2 at home by Cruzeiro in the Copa do Brasil, only to then beat the same side 2-0 away from home in the league. Their recent away games haven’t tended to produce many goals. Both teams have scored in only 1 of their last 6 on the road and with Vitoria’s new boss known for his defensive approach, one that has already delivered a narrow 1-0 win, this could be a lower scoring game than the bookies are anticipating.
Therefore consider backing Both Teams to Score – NO at Evens here.
