England To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

England have won their last three meetings with Wales and the Dragons looked woeful against Iran. They have now lost five of their last seven matches and scored just once in their last three.

Wales vs England Predictions

  • England have won their last three meetings with Wales, keeping two clean sheets.
  • Wales have lost five of their last seven matches.
  • Harry Kane has scored 19 goals for England since the start of 2021.

Southgate cannot afford to rotate

After a perfect start to the 2022 World Cup, England followed their 6-2 thrashing of Iran with a rather more underwhelming performance against the USA but they are still in with a fantastic chance of topping Group B heading into a clash against home-nations rival Wales.

The Three Lions were thwarted by a well-drilled USA side in round two and a draw was a fair result, but they looked solid at the back for the most part and will be confident of keeping a turgid Wales side at bay.

They may be top of Group B, but both Iran and USA could leapfrog them with a win on Tuesday and Gareth Southgate will be keen to secure top spot and avoid a likely meeting with the Netherlands in the next round. Rotation is not expected as they look for the win over Wales.

Dragons on the verge of World Cup exit

Rob Page’s side followed their own draw with the USA with an abysmal performance against Iran in Al Rayyan, leaving their hopes of qualification hanging by the thinnest of threads. They now need a win over England and the other Group B game to end in a draw, but it would take a huge improvement for them to win on Tuesday.

Wales were second-best for almost the entirety of their clash with Iran and were lucky to still be in the tie  when Wayne Hennessey was sent off after recklessly charging out of his box. Iran continues to press forward, though, scoring two goals deep into stoppage time and outshooting their opponents by 22 shots to ten.

The Dragons have now drawn two and lost five of their last seven matches and have scored just once in their last three games, while England looked assured at the back against the USA and are likely to set up with a defence first mindset.

Kane to make the difference in Al Rayyan

England have won their last three meetings with Wales and kept a clean sheet in two, and I fancy them to get another narrow victory. England win to nil is the tip, with a tight 1-0 scoreline to best option for correct score punters.

Harry Kane is yet to score a goal this World Cup but it is only a matter of time before the Tottenham striker finds his shooting boots. He won the Golden Boot four years ago and has scored 19 goals for England since the start of 2021. He could make the difference at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.
