Southampton to Win

Reason for tip

Watford and Southampton have picked up four points apiece from their opening three Championship matches, but preference is for the Saints to come out on top in this latest meeting. The south-coast side have won five of their last eight match-ups with the Hornets and a draw at Ipswich and 3-0 win away to Norwich in the League Cup suggests they are the sharper of these two sides.

Watford 2-1

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in eight of the past ten meetings, so Southampton are fancied to win by a 2-1 scoreline in this fixture. Only leaders Stoke have been too strong this term for the Saints who hammered Norwich 3-0 in the EFL Cup on Tuesday. Watford have scored in each of their last three matches but may not be able to manage more than one against Saturday’s visitors.

Watford vs Southampton Predictions

  • Southampton have won five of their last eight meetings with Watford.
  • Both teams have scored in eight of the last ten match-ups between these two.
  • Saints have scored exactly three goals in each of their last two meetings with the Hornets.

Saints to march off with maximum points

Watford and Southampton have ambitions of making a Premier League return as soon as possible, but the pair have made a measured start to the new campaign by taking four points each from their opening three Championship outings.

Saints are looking to bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking, while the Hornets are looking to end their exile following relegation in 2022, but the prediction is for Southampton to steal a march on their rivals with a victory this weekend.

Watford bounced back from two opening losses to beat QPR and draw with Swansea last time out, while Southampton have drawn at Ipswich at lost to leaders Stoke in their last two league fixtures.

However, Will Still’s men hammered Norwich 3-0 in the EFL Cup on Tuesday and their record against Watford is good enough to suggest they can claim a crucial victory in this match.

Five of the past eight match-ups have gone Saints’ way and they have scored six goals across the last two meetings.

A more modest margin of victory looks likely this weekend, with a 2-1 away win out correct-score prediction.

Both teams have scored in eight of their last ten meetings so Watford can be expected to at least get on the scoresheet at Vicarage Road.
