West Brom vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

West Brom are enjoying a relatively good start to the season considering their usual positioning in the depths of mid-table. Their opening day win at Crystal Palace was a big help for them, and despite them only winning one game since, they find themselves in a promising 9th position in the Premier League. This is largely down to the defensive organisation of Tony Pulis and his ability to make teams incredibly tough to beat. They have only lost two games this season against Everton and Bournemouth, drawing the remaining three in the Premier League.

However, one of the other big bonuses West Brom have received in these opening stages of the season is their run of fixtures. The only in form side they have faced so far this term is Everton, and they lost that match at the Hawthorns. Their other fixtures have been against Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough, Bournemouth, West Ham, Stoke, and Sunderland. The next few weeks will be a much tougher test for West Brom, with games against Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Leicester coming up in a row. Their position at the end of this tough run of games could be more indicative of their overall standing in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur were almost written off as Premier League title contenders at the start of this season. Their inclusion in the Champions League has often had a massively detrimental effect on their league form, and the arrivals of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho in Manchester have seen those two sides take the limelight. The critics have been proven wrong though. They could only find a point at Everton in their season opener, but since then they have won five of their six Premier League games. This has taken them to 2nd in the table, and after Mauricio Pochettino’s masterstroke victory over Manchester City last weekend they are just a point behind Pep Guardiola and company.

This victory made it five in a row in all competitions for Spurs, and as such I think they’ll be very hard for West Brom to stop . Tony Pulis is incredibly good at organising his back line, but they struggled when Everton came to town and Spurs’ attacking threats are no less talented. I think their players are just too limited to stop Spurs on a good day.

Tottenham’s star attacking player this season has been Son, who has scored two braces – both away from home – in the 4 games he’s played so far this season. With Harry Kane still struggling with injury, their next top scorer has been Dele Alli with two, while Christian Eriksen has yet to score. At 12/5 to score anytime, he looks a good value bet having scored 6 goals last season and 10 the season before. He’s recording 3 shots per game, only slightly below Son’s 4.5 and the second highest in the team, suggesting he has plenty of goal scoring opportunities. His previous seasons show he has the quality to put them away too.

West Brom have shown the ability to score goals this season as well though, which is something they have severely lacked in the past. As such, West Brom have managed to score in six of their eight competitive games this season. Tottenham Hotspur may have a good defensive line, but two of their three away days in the Premier League have seen them fail to keep a clean sheet.

Because of this, West Brom bagging a goal against Spurs is certainly not out of the question. But as mentioned before, the visitors form should prove just too much for the Baggies, and I fully expect Spurs to get the win. Odds of 3/1 for a Tottenham Hotspur Win and Both Teams to Score look too good to turn down as well, so I’m backing that along with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 8/1.
