West Ham United vs Leeds Predictions
- West Ham have lost three Premier League matches on the spin
- Leeds are unbeaten in eight league games
- The Whites have lost only four of their last 24 top-flight fixtures
Time almost up for Hammers
West Ham know only a win against Leeds on Sunday will do in their quest to preserve their Premier League status, but even that might not be enough, with the Hammers starting the day two points below relegation rivals Tottenham and with a vastly inferior goal difference.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side came into the final month of the season in buoyant mood, having lost only three of their previous 13 league fixtures, but three consecutive defeats since has seen them slip to the cusp of a first relegation in 15 years.
An improved home record – the Hammers have lost only one of their last seven league fixtures at the London Stadium and that sole defeat came against newly-crowned champions Arsenal – does offer some hope, but Leeds are a team that have themselves become hard to beat.
Resilient visitors tough to oppose
Like West Ham, Leeds spent much of the season embroiled in a relegation battle, but their improvement over recent months means their supporters can enjoy this final day trip to the capital.
Daniel Farke’s side are unbeaten in eight league games and have lost only four of their last 24 top-flight fixtures since narrowly going down 3-2 at Manchester City in late November – a match that is seen as the turning point in their season.
Winning matches has not always been easy for the Whites, who have drawn 14 of their 37 league fixtures, particularly away from home, as they have triumphed just twice on their travels since returning to the top flight.
Leeds did claim a success at West Ham in the FA Cup, coming through on penalties, and they are capable of avoiding defeat on the final day, an outcome which would prove catastrophic for their hosts.
Rodon to expose weakness
Only Liverpool (20) have conceded more set-piece goals than West Ham’s total of 17 and one of those was shipped in a 2-1 defeat to Leeds at Elland Road in October.
Joe Rodon was the beneficiary that day – one of two Premier League goals he has scored this season – and the Wales international could add another on the final day.
Although not a prolific goalscorer, Rodon has had a shot on target in three of his last four Premier League appearances and he could send the away fans jubilant at the London Stadium.
