West Ham United vs Leeds Predictions
- Leeds have improved under Sam Allardyce.
- West Ham played in Europe on Thursday.
- The visitors are the team in greater need of the points.
West Ham reunion for Leeds boss Allardyce
Leeds boss Sam Allardyce picked up his first point since taking charge with a draw against old employers Newcastle last time out and now faces another one of his former clubs at West Ham on Sunday.
The Hammers are six points clear of danger with a vastly superior goal difference and they may even be mathematically safe by the time these teams take to the pitch on Sunday, depending on Everton’s result on Saturday.
Leeds sit inside the bottom three but they are just one point adrift of safety, and the visitors will be without the suspended Junior Firpo after he was shown his marching orders in the 2-2 draw with the Magpies last week.
Leeds can claim key win
It is probably fair to say Allardyce has had a baptism of fire as Leeds manager as he started his tenure with a 2-1 defeat to champions-elect Manchester City before a tough game against top four contenders Newcastle.
Performances have clearly improved, however, and this trip to West Ham looks a far more winnable assignment.
The Hammers have little left to play for domestically and were in action on Thursday night as they claimed a 1-0 win at AZ Alkmaar to book their place in the Europa Conference League final, and fatigue could now be an issue for the hosts.
It is hard to make an argument for Leeds based on results as they are winless in seven and have lost five of those games, but they have shown more fight under Allardyce and are clearly the team in greater need here so a win for the visitors at a big price looks a good option for our main bet.
Bamford can be Leeds hero
A 2-1 win for the visitors is the correct score prediction as West Ham have scored in 12 consecutive home fixtures and should be able to continue that streak, while Leeds have conceded in each of their last 13 games and may need to score at least twice to win.
Patrick Bamford missed from the spot against Newcastle and will be desperate to make amends. The striker still played well in that game despite his failure from the spot, and can be Leeds’ hero this weekend.
