Tip Reasoning

  • Norwich have lost their last five games to nil
  • West Ham have won three in a row, scoring nine times
  • Antonio scored four times when these two sides last met
  • Norwich have lost 24-0 across six clashes with the top six

Back to the grind for Canaries

Norwich were able to win at League One side Charlton at the weekend, but they face a quick return to league action. Their last poor Premier League campaign came alongside a run to the FA Cup quarter-finals and they’ll look for some relief in that competition this term too.

However, the Canaries are bottom of the Premier League with just 10 points from 19 games to date. To make matters worse, Dean Smith’s side have lost their last five league matches without scoring a goal. That’s not a good sign going into a difficult trip on Wednesday.

Hammers back on track

West Ham saw their Carabao Cup campaign ended last month but they’re competing across three fronts after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Leeds. That was their third win on the bounce, with that good run taking the Hammers into fifth, just a point shy of a Champions League place.

The Hammers have scored nine times across that winning run and confidence looks to be flowing through David Moyes’ side once more. After a difficult spell we’re seeing more from Michail Antonio, who has scored or assisted in each of his last four. After scoring every goal in a 4-0 win over Norwich when these two last met, back the striker for another goal in this clash.

Norwich struggling against top sides

Unsurprisingly, the Canaries have had it tough when it comes to facing the very best in the top flight. They’ve lost by an aggregate 24-0 across their six meetings with the top six. They’ve also been terrible on the road, with five of their six defeats coming by a two-goal margin or greater.

Norwich have lost by two or more on nine occasions this season and I’m backing West Ham to make it 10 on Wednesday night. The Hammers are in fine scoring form, while they’ve won four of five meetings with the bottom six so far, despite each of those games coming away from home.

West Ham look good to cover a -1 handicap, while four of Norwich’s six away defeats have come by three goals or more. Given that the Canaries have lost their last five to nil, back a 3-0 victory for the Hammers.

West Ham predicted lineup: Fabianski; Coufal, Dawson, Diop, Johnson; Soucek, Rice; Bowen, Lanzini, Fornals; Antonio

Norwich predicted lineup: Krul; Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Williams; Lees-Melou, Sorensen, McLean; Dowell, Pukki, Tzolis
