We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Southampton 2-1 @ 10/1

Reason For West Ham United vs Southampton Predictions

  • Six of West Ham’s and Southampton’s last eight respective home and away games in the Premier League have seen Over 2.5 Goals.
  • West Ham have lost six of their last 10 Premier League home games, conceding 2.0 goals per game in the process.
  • Southampton have won four of their last five Premier League away days, scoring at least two goals in all four victories.
  • The Saints have only kept two clean sheets in their last 10 league away matches.

Relegation worries overshadow West Ham’s positive performance at Anfield

Monday night’s clash between Liverpool and West Ham didn’t go quite as expected, but the end result was ultimately the same – another West Ham defeat. That being said, their thrilling 3-2 loss at Anfield could give the Hammers some confidence after pushing the champions elect so hard in their own back yard.

Still, nothing lowers morale more than an extended winless streak, and that’s exactly what West Ham are enduring right now. They have failed to win each of their last seven Premier League games, losing five times and pushing them down to 18th in the table, a point adrift of safety.

Given West Ham’s history with the London Stadium, it’s hardly surprising to see them struggling at home either. They have only won three home league games all season, and only one of those has come in their last 10 attempts. This gives David Moyes’ side the second worst home record in the division.

Resurgent Southampton on track for strong finish

Southampton, on the other hand, come into this game with the 5th best away record in the top flight. The Saints have been reinvented under Ralph Hasenhuttl, pushing themselves to 12th in the table and looking back on six wins from their last 10 league games.

As you would expect from the 5th best away team in the top flight, they have an excellent recent record on the road. Southampton have won four of their last five on their travels and have racked up six away wins already this season.

The Saints’ rejuvenation is largely thanks to Hasenhuttl’s attack minded approach to football. Previously goalshy, Southampton have scored in 11 of their last 12 league away games, although eight of these outings have seen them concede too.

Goals expected at the London Stadium

The result has been a lot of high scoring games, with six of their last eight on the road seeing at least three goals. Meanwhile, West Ham’s torrid back line has seen six of their last eight home league games end with three or more goals being scored, making a bet of Over 2.5 Goals look very attractive indeed.

In the end, we think Southampton have what it takes to get the win here. West Ham have conceded 1.92 goals per home game in the league this season, and Southampton have netted two or more goals in four of their last five on the road. West Ham have scored in all but two of their home games this season though, so backing a 2-1 win for the visitors looks a good choice.
