Whitecaps vs Colorado Rapids Predictions

Whitecaps are running out of time to recover from an overall poor quality season. They finished as runners up in the MLS Western Conference last season but have struggled to match those performances in 2016. They come into the final four games of the regular season down in 9th position in the MLS Western Conference.

There is a six point gap between them and the last of the MLS Playoff spots, and the two teams sitting in between them and Portland Timbers have two games in hand on both of them. They will probably need to win all of their remaining matches to stand any chance of making it to the all important playoffs.

Whitecaps have marginally improved recently to be fair. Their 1-0 loss to Seattle Sounders last weekend was a disappointment, but in midweek they have beaten Sporting Kansas City in the CONCACAF Champions League.  They have won three, drawn one, and lost two of their last six games in all competitions, but their MLS form tells a different story.

In the league they have managed just one victory in their last ten outings, with six of the last eight ending in defeat as well. At home they have won one, drawn three, and lost three of their last seven MLS games.

Colorado Rapids are the polar opposite to Whitecaps. They finished last season rock bottom of the Western Conference but now find themselves challenging for the top spot. They currently occupy 3rd position in the MLS Western Conference, but there are just five points between them and overall MLS leaders FC Dallas and they have two games in hand on them.

The visitors aren’t in the best of form though, with a goalless draw at home to San Jose Earthquakes last time out making it two wins, four draws, and three defeats in their last nine MLS games.

Colorado Rapids’ last away day was an impressive 1-0 win at Dallas, but prior to that they were winless in their last six on the road. They now need to build on the confidence that that win gave them to push for the title.

The visitors might be struggling for wins on the road, but they have only lost three of their last 11 away days in the MLS. Whitecaps have only won one of their last seven at home as well, so Colorado Rapids will feel they have a good chance of getting something from this game. Odds of 10/11 for a Colorado Rapids Win or Draw Double Chance look excellent value for money given the high stakes for the visitors, and I’m going for that along with a 2-1 win for them at 12/1 for my correct score prediction.
