Whitecaps vs Portland Timbers Betting Tips & Predictions

Whitecaps finished last season one position above Portland Timbers in 2nd place in the MLS Western Conference, but at this point the roles have been reversed, albeit quite some way down the Western Conference. Whitecaps sit in 8th position in the table while Portland Timbers reside in 7th, which can be classed as a very disappointing start for both teams.

Whitecaps started their campaign with back to back defeats before winning consecutive games, but since then they have been unable to break the shackles of poor form. They have lost three, drawn two, and won just one of their last six outings.

At home things get a little better for Whitecaps. They haven’t lost at the BC Place Stadium since their opening day defeat to Montreal Impact, with wins against Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas being broken up by draws against LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City.

Portland Timbers unexpectedly won the MLS Cup last season, and they looked to be starting in the same vein when they produced an identical 2-1 win against finalists Columbus Crew on the opening day of the season season.

However, they went on to pick up just two points from their following five matches, and it’s only recently that they have managed to find their feet again. They do come into this match with a bit more confidence though having won two and drawn one of their last three outings.

Away from home they are yet to win this season though, but their back to back away draws show improvement over their two defeats on the road that started the season.

One positive is that Portland Timbers have managed to score in all four of their away games and have netted in all nine of their MLS matches this season. Whitecaps have conceded in six of their nine outings so far this season as well, so odds of 8/11 for Both Teams to Score look pretty good to me. I’m going for a 1-1 draw at 11/2 as well.
