Wolves vs Brentford Predictions
Walter Zenga will have a hard time trying to figure out his side’s results over the past fortnight. They were held at home by Burton Albion and then hammered 4-0 on their own ground by Barnsley, another of the newly promoted sides. Just when it looked like there was some pretty serious problems with the new-look Wolves, they went up to title favourites Newcastle and recorded a shock 2-0 win. It certainly offset the damage done by that defeat against the Tykes and a 2-0 defeat in the League Cup, again at St James’ Park, on Tuesday won’t have caused them too many sleepless nights.
Brentford must be wondering which Wolves is going to turn up here but they can take plenty of comfort from their own form. They’ve taken 7 points from 3 games since the international break, which would have been far more than they’d have been expecting given the difficulty of their first two fixtures. A 2-0 win at Brighton and 1-1 draw at Aston Villa was backed up by the 5-0 thrashing of Preston at Griffin Park last weekend, so they will head up to the West Midlands full of confidence and hopeful of another strong result.
Wolves are the bookies favourites here but their inconsistency is a concern for anyone looking to back them. In truth it’s probably to be expected, given they have a lot of new players in the squad and Zenga is still trying to get his methods across. They haven’t been that convincing in any of their home games with their best two performances on the road at Birmingham and Newcastle. Wolves have only scored once in their last 3 league outings at Molineux and with Brentford impressing over the past few weeks, you have to say the visitors look well capable of getting a result here.
Therefore backing Double Chance – Draw or Brentford at 8/11 looks to offer value.
