Wrexham vs Weymouth Predictions

  • Wrexham have won six of their last ten National League games, including 3-0, 5-0 and 6-2 wins.
  • Weymouth have lost five of their last six away league games, by at least two goals on each occasion.
  • Torquay hit the woodwork twice in stoppage time during their 2-1 win at Weymouth last time out.

Dragons have designs on top spot

Weymouth will travel to Wrexham in trepidation of another morale-denting loss and Brian Stock’s side may be unable to avoid suffering that fate in front of the TV cameras.

The Terras have tumbled down the table to 19th on the back of four straight defeats and now only goal difference separates them from the relegation zone. Weymouth suffered a heavy defeat to table-toppers Chesterfield on their last away trip and Wrexham, who have designs on reaching the summit themselves, will see this as a chance to lay down a marker.

The Dragons were breathing fire between October and mid-November during a five-game run that saw them score 17 goals and record big-margin wins over Barnet, Aldershot and Kings Lynn. Phil Parkinson’s men have not quite been as ravenous of late, scoring only five in their last five, but none of those games were against a team as defensively poor as Weymouth.

Weymouth have underlying defensive issues

Five of the Terras last six away trips have seen them beaten by two goals or more and, going further back, it also happened in three of their last four away games last season. We can only conclude that Stock’s team have some major underlying issues that make the -1 handicap on the hosts an attractive bet.

They were fortunate not to lose by more than a goal against Torquay, who hit the woodwork twice in stoppage time, last weekend, so that also plays into the selection. The 3-1 correct score forecast is based on Weymouth having scored in four of their last seven road trips and the Dragons conceding in three of their last five home games.
