Inter Milan vs Paris Saint Germain Predictions

Inter Milan kick off their International Champions Cup campaign with one of the more difficult ties of the pre-season friendly tournament on Sunday. They open with a game in Oregon against Paris Saint Germain and will follow it with matches against Celtic and Bayern Munich later in the summer.

So far this summer not much has happened in the Inter Milan camp. Roberto Mancini remains at the helm after guiding them to a 4th place finish in Serie A last season and, as of yet, they haven’t accepted any bids for captain and key striker Mauro Icardi.

Despite the lack of turmoil in the squad, their pre-season hasn’t gone particularly well so far. They beat Real Salt Lake 2-1 on Wednesday but, prior to that, they had drawn with Austrian side Wattens and lost at home to CSKA Sofia despite putting out a relatively strong squad. This makes it three wins, one draw, and four defeats in their last eight outings.

Inter Milan are expected to put out a strong squad again during this campaign, as the only key players involved in Euro 2016 were Italian striker Eder and Croatian pair Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic.

Whilst Inter Milan are in a rather calm spell of transfer activity, Paris Saint Germain are just the opposite. They lost the talismanic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the start of July when his contract expired, and they now need to replace a striker who has scored 156 goals for them over the past four seasons. Full backs Gregory van der Wiel and Lucas Digne have also departed, whilst Polish midfielder Gregorz Krychowiak, Belgian full back Thomas Meunier, and the in form Hatem Ben Arfa have all made the move to Paris.

Paris Saint Germain are also expected to leave Blaise Matuidi out after his Euro 2016 efforts but, despite all this change, they still have a very talented squad of players. They did leave it late to beat West Brom in a friendly last Wednesday though, requiring goals from Adrien Rabiot and Lucas Moura in the final half an hour after an early own goal by David Luiz.

Despite the departure of Ibrahimovic, Paris Saint Germain will still feel confident coming into the new season. They breezed Ligue 1 last season and made it a domestic treble with a Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue wins. They have now won eight of their last nine outings and drawn the remaining one.

Even without their main man, I would expect them to have too much for Inter Milan on Sunday and my prediction is for a Paris Saint Germain win at odds of 10/11. I’m also going for a 2-1 correct score prediction at 15/2.
