Max Verstappen produced one of the most dominant performances in recent memory last weekend as he cruised from 14th on the grid to win by almost 18 seconds and the Dutchman is fancied to continue his title charge in his home Grand Prix this weekend.

However, Charles Leclerc will be eager to put an end to his podium drought while Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will be hoping for a better showing from their improving but inconsistent Mercedes.

Dutch Grand Prix qualifying predictions

Charles Leclerc to be fastest qualifier at 15/8

Make no mistake, last weekend was a terrible one for Ferrari but there is no denying the pace of both Charles Leclerc and the car over a single lap.

Leclerc has taken pole seven times from 14 races this season and has only missed out on the front row four times. He pipped teammate Carlos Sainz to the fastest time in Free Practice 2 and Red Bull’s shaky Friday will inspire some confidence into the beleaguered team.

Max Verstappen missed most of FP1 due to a gearbox failure and was only eighth fastest in FP2 after testing out a new rear wing.

The Dutchman will undoubtedly push the Ferraris much closer on Saturday but it could take him a while to get up to speed and Leclerc, generally speaking, is usually capable of pulling something out of the bag when the pressure is on in qualifying.

Alex Albon to beat Nicholas Latifi

Nicholas Latifi was last in FP2 and has been well off the pace of Alex Albon all season. Albon qualified an impressive ninth last weekend and has beaten Latifi in qualifying in nine of the last ten races.

Charles Leclerc to beat Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz was once again edged out of the fastest time in FP2 and that is pretty much the story of his season in qualifying. He qualified ahead of Leclerc last weekend but that was because the Monegasque driver was taking a grid penalty. That was just fourth time in 14 races this season he has managed that.

Fernando Alonso to beat Esteban Ocon

Fernando Alonso was faster than his teammate in FP2 and is clearly the faster of the two drivers. He was outqualified by one position in the last two races but Ocon has only beaten Alonso in qualifying in four of the last 11 races.

Kevin Magnussen to beat Mick Schumacher

Mick Schumacher may have bested his teammate in practice but Kevin Magnussen has had the beating of him in qualifying for most of the season. He has won the teammate battle in eight of the last nine races and can pull it out of the bag on Saturday.

Lando Norris to beat Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo suffered another dismal session in FP2 while Lando Norris was all the way up in fourth. The Brit has beaten his Aussie teammate in qualifying in seven of the last eight race weekends.

Lewis Hamilton to beat George Russell

George Russell is performing admirably against arguably the greatest driver of all time but Hamilton is still good value to start further up the grid. The seven-time world champion has outqualified his protege in four of the last six Grands Prix and one of his failures to do so was when he crashed out in Austria.

Max Verstappen to beat Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez has struggled with the car in both Free Practice sessions and is running a different floor to Verstappen. The world champion is winning the qualifying battle 11-3 so far and has outqualified Perez in each of the last six races.

Pierre Gasly to beat Yuki Tsunoda

Yuki Tsunoda has enjoyed some solid runs in the AlphaTauri but Pierre Gasly still has the pace advantage overall. The Frenchman has outqualified Tsunoda in ten of the 14 races so far .

Sebastian Vettel to beat Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll showed some impressive pace in FP2 but it’s hard to back against Sebastian Vettel at almost evens. The four-time world champion missed the first two races through Covid but has been on top ever since, winning the qualifying battle 8-4 since returning.

Guanyu Zhou to beat Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri Bottas has dropped off massively over the last couple of months and was down in 18th in FP2, over half a second behind Guanyu Zhou. Bottas was slowest at Spa last weekend and has actually been outqualified by his teammate in four of the last seven races.

Max Verstappen to win at 5/6

Verstappen may have had a chequered Friday but he is hard to oppose when it comes to the melting pot that is race day.

His dominant victory in Spa was his third successive Grand Prix win and he has already taken the chequered flag first nine times this season, while Red Bull have only finished outside the top two once all season.

The reigning champion won his home Grand Prix in its return to the calendar last year and it would take a brave person to back against him on Sunday.

Both cars points finish – Alpine at 5/6

There may be drama behind the scenes at Alpine but the results continue to flow for the French team and they can put in another solid showing this weekend.

Despite Esteban Ocon taking a grid penalty in Belgium, Alpine still managed to get both drivers in the top ten for the fourth successive race and the last time they failed to do so was when Ocon was forced to retired at Silverstone.

They have secured double-points finishes in eight Grands Prix this season and in six of the last seven, while both were in the top ten during FP2.

Sebastian Vettel points finish at 11/8

The Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll has been atrocious over a single lap this season but they can eke some race-pace out of the car and that has paid dividends in Vettel’s last season in Formula 1.

After a shaky and disrupted start to the season, the four-time world champion has finished in the points in five of his last eight Grands Prix and in two of his failures to do so he has finished 11th and 12th.

Even Lance Stroll is managing to get a tune out of the Aston, too, finishing tenth or 11th in five of his last six races. With points contenders such as Alfa Romeo and Haas seemingly going backwards, expect Vettel to add to his tally at Zandvoort.
