There is no action from the PGA Tour for the next two weeks but there are LIV and DP World Tour events taking place this week.
Racing Post golf expert Steve Palmer has picked out his best bets for this week’s LIV Golf Boston and the Made In Himmerland tournaments and together they combine for a 286/1 double, which as always he recommends backing as an each-way bet.
286/1 Golf each-way double
The PGA Tour is taking a fortnight’s break after the drama of the Tour Championship last Sunday, but golf punters still have two tournaments to consider this week, with the latest in the series of LIV Golf events taking place in Massachusetts.
LIV Golf Boston boasts the best field that the breakaway circuit has ever gathered, with world number two and reigning Open champion Cameron Smith joining the party. World number 19, Joaquin Niemann, has also signed for LIV Golf, so this week’s 54-hole shootout at the Oaks Course has plenty of star quality.
The new arrivals may have the effect of giving Dustin Johnson an extra burst of motivation and enthusiasm. For starters, the former world number one can enjoy some time out of the media spotlight – Smith and Niemann will have to deal with the difficult questions – but secondly, Johnson will feel he has a world-class field in which to prove himself.
DJ was by far the best player in LIV Golf prior to this week, perhaps coasting a little, but with Smith and Niemann on board the competitive edge will probably return.
Johnson is recommended as a one half of a 286/1 each-way double. He has finished eighth, fourth and third in the first three LIV events – and that progression can continue with a victory. Smith was 23rd of 29 runners for 72-hole scoring in the Tour Championship last week – and it may take the Australian time to settle into LIV golf.
Pair 6/1 Johnson with 40/1 chance Marcus Helligkilde for the Made In HimmerLand event. Helligkilde, who finished fourth in the ISPS Handa World Invitational three weeks ago, has hit form in time to attack a course he knows well. The Dane can make a DP World Tour breakthrough in his homeland on Sunday.
