It’s just a week until the first golf Major in the 2022 calendar but before we start gearing up for The Masters, there are two more tournaments worth our consideration this week.

The first Major of the LPGA Tour takes place at Mission Hills in California for the last time, teeing off a few hours after the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio.

Racing Post’s golf expert, Steve Palmer, is here with a couple of his top picks for this week’s action.

298/1 Golf each-way double

The Chevron Championship winners prediction – Lydia Ko

The renamed Chevron Championship, which was previously the ANA Inspiration, is the first Major of the LPGA Tour season and it could provide an opportunity for the former queen of the sport to re-establish herself as the best.

Jin Young Ko is the current world number one – and the Korean has been in red-hot form – but Ko knows that her namesake Lydia Ko is well capable of taking over at the rankings summit if she can rediscover her A-game.

Lydia Ko was a remarkable prodigy – a prolific winner in her teens – and she was world number one at the age of 17. She won a Major when only 18 and was the dominant force in the sport for four years.

A fallow period followed, but Ko won in April last year, then in the Saudi Ladies International in November, before another victory at the end of January.

A bout of Covid means Ko has played a light schedule in recent weeks, but 12th place in the JTBC Classic last week was a decent return to action, and she tees up on Thursday at a course she loves.

Ko won this Major at Mission Hills Country Club in 2016 – and she has finished sixth and second in the event the last two years. Ko is the course-record holder (62) and can be backed at 12/1.

Valero Texas Open winners prediction – Abraham Ancer

When paired with Texas Open 22/1 chance Abraham Ancer, FST followers have a 298/1 double.

Ancer, born in Texas and based in San Antonio, knows this venue extremely well and excelled for four days in the WGC-Match Play last week.
