The major European top-flight domestic season officially ends on Sunday as Atalanta and Fiorentina play out their delayed Serie A affair but football fans and punters do not have to wait long before we’re flung headfirst back into the action.

Euro 2024 kicks off in under two weeks and before we get our week-long series of outright predictions underway, which you can find here, we’ve asked some of our experts for an early wager for the tournament.

Romelu Lukaku to be Serie A’s top goalscorer looks generous at 11/4. The Roma striker is his country’s all-time leading scorer by some distance and averages 0.73 goals-per-game for Belgium. He was top scorer in Euro 2024 qualifying with 14 goals in eight games, two of his four closest competitors – Olivier Giroud and Marcus Thuram – rotate up top for France, and one of them – Ciro Immobile – isn’t even in the Italy squad.

James Mason

Bruno Fernandes to have the most assists is a tempting one at 12/1. The 29-year-old will be playing in a strong Portugal team that have a strong chance of winning and he topped the assists charts in Euro 2024 qualifying. He also ended the domestic campaign with Manchester United strongly.

Joe Casey

I can’t see how France are 4/1 second-favourites behind England, I’d have Les Bleus at the head of the market quite comfortably.

Didier Deschamps’ side have reached the final of three of the last four major tournaments they have played in and have the best strength in depth of any team in the world.

Stephen Davies

Romania look so short of goals that their penalty-taking midfielder Razvan Marin looks a really decent price at 25/1 to be his country’s top scorer. That just pips Belgium’s Lois Openda at 50/1 for the Golden Boot.
