England are joint-favourites for Euro 2024 alongside France and, with the tournament now well on our radar, the race for a place on the plane to Germany is hotting up.

Gareth Southgate will be casting his eyes over the pool of players available for June’s tournament over the next few months and I’ve rounded up five outsiders that could crash the party this summer.

Jarrod Bowen at 6/4 with SkyBet

Jarrod Bowen was called up to the England squad in November and has five caps to his name, but his game has evolved this season and he could be more useful to Gareth Southgate than previously thought.

He has featured up front for West Ham this term and has shown signs that he can provide an alternative option to many of England’s other recognised forwards, scoring 11 goals in 19 Premier League appearances and possessing the ability to play all across the front line.

Fikayo Tomori at 7/4 with bet365

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori is out injured at the moment but the 27-year-old is expected to be back in the starting line-up next month and that gives him plenty of time to play his way back to fitness.

He was called up against Malta and North Macedonia in November and has made five appearances under Gareth Southgate, three of which have come in the past two years.

The centre-back area is in need of a refresh and Tomori, alongside the next outsider on this list, is one of the few options with age on his side.

Jarrad Branthwaite at 4/1 with SkyBet

At just 21 years old, Jarrad Branthwaite could be the future of England’s back line and this could be the tournament he makes his breakthrough at.

Branthwaite has been a standout performer at the back for Everton this season, breaking into the first team to feature 18 times after his successful loan spell at PSV last term.

The likes of Harry Maguire, John Stones, Tyrone Mings, Lewis Dunk and Eric Dier will all be at least 30 years old by the time Euro 2024 kicks off, so the young Everton defender could be the one to displace one of the regular names.

Kobbie Mainoo at 11/1 with bet365

Kobbie Mainoo has established himself as a regular in Manchester United’s midfield since returning from injury and has been one of the few positives in an otherwise torrid season for the Red Devils.

The 18-year-old shows composure on the ball and excellent tackling, which could put him in line to be Declan Rice’s backup this summer.

Jordan Henderson could be dropped after an underwhelming season in Saudi Arabia and Jude Bellingham has shown his worth further up the pitch, opening the door for a new defensively-minded midfielder to break into the England ranks.

Eric Dier at 12/1 with bet365

Eric Dier was last called up by Gareth Southgate in March 2023 but was dropped after falling out of favour at Tottenham following the appointment of Ange Postecoglou.

Dier’s recently-completed loan move to Bayern Munich could pave the way for an international return, though.

The 30-year-old has previously been favoured by Gareth Southgate and, providing he can get enough minutes under his belt in Munich, his versatility could be enough to earn him a recall.
