Tip Reasoning

  • Both teams have not scored in eight of the last ten Bolton Wanderers matches in the league.
  • Both teams have not scored in three of the last five Accrington Stanley games.
  • Bolton Wanderers have failed to score in their last five League One away games (all defeats).

Struggling Lancashire sides won’t serve up ‘hot pot’

Two teams that slipped up badly in midweek meet in a mid-table League One Lancashire derby on Saturday.

While Accrington Stanley were falling to their third home league defeat in four against AFC Wimbledon, Bolton were being flayed by relegation-threatened Fleetwood. It’s hard to say which was the worst result, but the Trotters’ away form is very troubling right now.

Ian Evatt’s side have lost five road trips in a row and failed to score in each of them, so there won’t be much expectation of them getting a positive result at Wham Stadium this weekend.

Wanderers away woes may continue

John Coleman was more upbeat than Evatt in his post-match assessment after his side were shut out by the Dons in a 2-0 home reverse on Tuesday. The vastly more experienced Coleman knows he needs to nurture confidence and manage expectations at the same time.

Stanley’s great early-season home form is long gone now and that makes this game very hard to call. One statistic that catches the eye is Bolton’s regular involvement in games where both teams do not score. Only three clubs in the rest of the Football League have a lower percentage of games in which both teams have scored than the Trotters.

And given, both teams have not scored in three of the last five Accrington Stanley games, the price of around Evens for it to happen here looks good value. The correct score bet that best suits the scenario here is probably 1-0 either way, but expecting Bolton to win away looks fanciful at the moment so we will come down in favour of the hosts.
