      Derry City to Win

      Reason for tip

Derry City head into this clash full of confidence after a commanding 7-0 win over Waterford, and their strong record when scoring first underlines their ability to take control of matches. They’re chasing a fifth straight league win and face a Sligo side that has struggled both defensively and offensively. Derry’s superior form and position make them the clear pick here.

      Derry City 2-1

      Reason for tip

Sligo tend to find a way to score at home, but their defence is leaky, and Derry have consistently edged tight games this season. Eight of their 12 wins have come by a single goal, and a 2-1 away win fits the pattern.

Sligo Rovers vs Derry City Predictions

      Derry to maintain momentum

Derry City had a decisive win in their last Premier Division game and they should be backed to pick up where they left off away to Sligo at The Showgrounds on Saturday.

Derry City dominated possession in their 7-0 win against Waterford last Friday, having 66.6% of the ball. They have won 11 of the 14 games in which they’ve scored first this season (79%).

Derry City are second in the Premier Division, seven places and 20 points above ninth-placed Sligo. Derry have 12 wins, four draws and seven defeats from their 23 games this season, while Sligo have won five, drawn five and lost 13.

Sligo’s struggles up front are a concern. They have scored just 14 goals at home in the league this season, averaging just over a goal per game from their 12 matches.

Derry City are in form, going for a fifth successive Premier Division win. They have won their last two games on the road and have lost just one of their last six meetings with Sligo.

Sligo’s defence has been far from solid, with the hosts failing to keep a clean sheet in 16 of their last 19 Premier Division home games. They have conceded an average of 1.42 goals per game at home this season.

A 2-1 away win for Derry City looks a decent correct-score bet. Both teams have scored in Sligo’s last three Premier Division games and eight of Derry City’s 12 wins this season were by a single goal.
