Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Wimbledon have scored no more than one goal in their last 12 league games, but they have also only conceded more than once in two of those. The teams look evenly matched on paper and a 1-1 draw could be the outcome if the defences remain on top.

AFC Wimbledon vs Lincoln City Predictions

Opposing goals could be the way to go

Goals could be in short supply when Wimbledon entertain Lincoln in League One on Saturday afternoon. The Dons, who achieved promotion via the play-offs, kicked off the campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Luton Town last Friday.

It was the game that produced the lowest expected goals (xG) in the opening round of fixtures and comfortably so as Luton took three points with a 1-0 win based on an xG of 0.53 to Wimbledon’s 0.03.

Dons defender Ryan Johnson headed past his own keeper to spoil what had been a solid backs-to-the-wall display from Johnnie Jackson’s side, who were three divisions apart from Luton just over a year ago.

Dons’ formula is based on a tight defence

Expect a similar approach from the home side against Lincoln, who impressed in their 2-0 home win against Reading. They know that keeping things tight at the back is the right formula, having won each of their three play-off matches 1-0 in May.

Lincoln might well find a way through them on Saturday, but Jackson’s side will be keen to show that they can compete at the other end of the pitch too. That said, backing fewer than three goals in the game looks like fairly solid territory for a bet.

Fewer than three goals have been scored in 11 of Wimbledon’s last 12 league matches and also in seven of Lincoln’s last 10 games in League One while only one of the clubs’ previous six meetings has seen a third goal.
