Walsall to Win

Reason for tip

Walsall have had to recover from a dramatic slump in form in the second half of the season, but they look to have got their act together and can edge what should be a tight final.

Walsall 1-0

Reason for tip

Both of these defences are in good order so it looks as if just one goal will be enough to take the Saddlers into League One

AFC Wimbledon vs Walsall Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in just two of Walsall’s last seven matches
  • Nine of Wimbledon’s last ten league games have featured fewer than three goals
  • Both teams have won their last three matches

Saddlers could finally get over the line

The playoff weekend will close with the League Two offering between AFC Wimbledon and Walsall on Monday and it looks like being a tight affair.

The Saddlers never wanted to be in the playoffs and thought they were heading for title glory when they were 12 points clear at the head of affairs.

But their form fell through the floor after prolific on-loan striker Nathan Lowe went back to his parent club Stoke and there were plenty of fears that they would not be able to cope with the psychological effects of their poor form.

That was further dented when an injury-time goal for Bradford meant the Bantams grabbed automatic promotion instead, but the 1-0 win Walsall gained at Crewe on the final day turned the tide and they have the right to be confident they can get over the line in Monday’s final after two comfortable wins over Chesterfield in the semi-finals.

Tight Dons defence may be breached

Wimbledon will undoubtedly make life difficult for the Midlands outfit as Johnnie Jackson’s team had the best defence in the regular League Two season, conceding just 35 goals in their 46 matches.

The Dons held firm in both of their semi-final legs against Notts County, both of which they won 1-0, but we will never know how much more pressure would have been heaped on their back line had the Magpies not been without their best two forward, Alassana Jetta and David McGoldrick for the Plough Lane return.

That should give Walsall hope that their rearguard is penetrable and it just edges the showdown in their favour, but it looks set to be a tight contest and backing the Saddlers to win by scoring the only goal of the game looks a sensible course of action for those looking for a correct-score interest.
