Arsenal vs Leeds Predictions
- Arsenal won 1-0 at Manchester United last weekend.
- The Gunners had the best defence in the Premier League last season.
- Leeds failed to score in all six of their losses in all competitions last season.
Reality check for buoyant Leeds
Leeds United claimed a memorable 1-0 win over Everton at Elland Road last week in their season opener after a two-year absence from the Premier League, but they will struggle to follow that up with a result at Arsenal in the late game on Saturday.
The Gunners had a perfect record against the promoted sides last season as they won all six games in the league, and they made a strong start this term with a 1-0 win at Manchester United despite what was perhaps a below-par performance from Mike Arteta’s men.
Arsenal can win without conceding
Arsenal are the clear favourites so the value play here could be backing them to win to nil, rather than focus on the handicap markets.
Leeds did look fairly sharp in attack against Everton but Arsenal are a far stronger team than the Merseyside outfit, and Daniel Farke’s side did need a spot kick to get on the scoresheet last weekend.
Arsenal had the best defence in the top tier last term and they conceded just 17 goals in 19 home games, and they kept clean sheets in three of their final four home wins across all competitions.
Leeds stormed the Championship last season and only lost six games across all competitions, and they failed to score in all of those defeats.
Leeds can keep it respectable
Arsenal weren’t at their free flowing best against Manchester United and it may take a bit of time for their marquee summer capture Viktor Gyokeres to settle in at the Emirates.
The hosts may not blow Leeds away but they can still claim a comfortable victory and 3-0 seems a reasonable score prediction, as the north Londoners have only scored more than three goals in one of their last 17 games.
Gyokeres could take a while to hit top form but he still stands out as a potential anytime scorer on Saturday. The Swede struggled to get into the game at Old Trafford but Leeds should offer less resistance and his team-mates will be eager to help him open his account for the club, and his haul of 39 goals in 33 league games in Portugal for Sporting last term indicates he will be a success in the Premier League even if he underwhelmed on his Gunners debut.
