Aston Villa put in a phenomenal performance in midweek to resign a tepid Manchester City side to defeat, leapfrogging the reigning Premier League champions into third in the process.

Their 1-0 victory belies their dominance in that game and they could pull off another upset when they host league-leaders Arsenal on Saturday.

The Villans have won 11 of their 12 competitive home games this season, with their sole defeat coming as Unai Emery fielded a rotated side in the Carabao Cup against Everton.

Gunners cutting it fine on the road

Of course, Arsenal are no pushovers. The Gunners sit top of the table after 15 games and have won their last four league games, but they haven’t always looked at their best away from home.

Mikel Arteta’s side required an injury-time winner at Luton in midweek and needed an 89th-minute goal to beat Brentford in their previous away match.

Watkins to make the difference at Villa Park

Arsenal have lost three of their last seven competitive away games and are coming up against one of the most in-form sides in the top flight. Aston Villa seem unstoppable at home and look excellent value for another three points.

The hosts have only kept two clean sheets in their last ten home games, though, and Arsenal have scored in ten of their last 11 away days, so a 2-1 correct score prediction looks feasible.

Ollie Watkins is an option for anytime goalscorer punters. The 27-year-old has ten goals in all competitions for Villa this season and has scored in four of his last six outings for club and country. He scored in a 4-2 defeat when these sides last met and has four goals in six Premier League meetings with the Gunners, so he could make the difference at Villa Park.
