Reason For Aston Villa vs Arsenal Predictions

  • Arsenal have won six of their last eight competitive games.
  • The Gunners have kept five clean sheets in this period, winning 2-0 on three occasions.
  • Aston Villa have lost each of their last seven meetings with Arsenal.
  • Aston Villa have lost nine of their last 13 in all competitions.

Villa shown glimmer of hope in relegation battle

The last week-and-a-half has seen Aston Villa’s survival chances boosted considerably, but despite their mini-resurgence The Villains remain in a mountain of trouble as we head into the penultimate game of the Premier League season.

The hosts played out a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park last week and beat Crystal Palace last weekend, but they still sit 19th in the table and have a three point gap to close if they want to secure safety.

Not only that, but Bournemouth currently have the same gap to close and have a marginally better goal difference, while 17th placed Watford are the only side either of these teams can realistically move above. Three teams compete for a single place, and a game against an in-form Arsenal side isn’t the easiest way to start this mammoth challenge.

Arteta hits new heights at the Emirates

The Mikel Arteta revolution continued to win plaudits at the weekend as the Gunners clinched a wholly unexpected 2-0 win against Manchester City to reach the FA Cup Final. This followed on from a win over Liverpool in midweek to make it six wins from their last eight competitive matches.

However, the troubles from earlier in the season still hang over the Emirates. Arsenal are 10th in the table but, with only three points separating them from 6th place Wolves and a spot in the FA Cup Final, Europa League qualification certainly isn’t out of their reach just yet.

History sides with the Gunners

That comes as bad news for Aston Villa fans because the Gunners still have plenty of motivation to gun for all three points here, and their record against Villa is exceptional. They have won their last seven competitive meetings and haven’t lost away to Villa since 1998, winning ten of their 17 trips there since.

Combined that with Arsenal’s recent record of six wins from eight and Aston Villa losing nine of their last 13 assignments, including five of their last seven at home, and backing an Arsenal win looks a fantastic value option.

Arteta has even managed to improve Arsenal’s usually torrid defensive side. They have kept a clean sheet in four of their last eight, including twice away from home, and face a Villa side that have failed to score in six of their last ten Premier League matches. Arsenal have scored exactly two goals in five of these eight matches as well, and with three 2-0 victories included that ties in nicely with our correct score prediction.

Aubameyang chases individual accolades

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang once again stole the show at Wembley on Saturday. The Gabon forward notched a brace to send Arsenal to the FA Cup Final, nudging his own tally up to an impressive 25 goals in 41 appearances for the Gunners.

Arsenal’s star attacker will certainly be motivated to put in his best effort on Tuesday as well. He sits joint second in the race for the Golden Boot, three goals behind Jamie Vardy but with every chance of closing that gap before the final game of the season.

Aubameyang has scored five goals in his last five competitive starts and scored the winning goal in the reverse fixture at the Emirates back in September, so he has form against Villa as well.

Not only that, but he’s topped the 20-goal mark in each of his last four league campaigns with Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, so it would be a brave man to bet against him finding the net again before the season ends.
