Aston Villa vs Manchester United Predictions
- Both teams have scored in Villa’s last four home games.
- Villa are yet to draw a blank at Villa Park this season.
- Manchester United have scored in seven consecutive fixtures.
Faltering Villa still a threat
Aston Villa’s title bid has taken a bit of a knock recently with just two wins in their last six league games and they face a test on Sunday as Manchester United visit.
United are back in the hunt for a top six spot after a run of 10 points from their last five games, which began with a 3-2 win over Villa in the reverse fixture in December, and they arrive at Villa Park seeking a fourth straight win in all competitions.
Both teams to score a clear starting point
Villa had a great home record until recently but back-to-back defeats at Villa Park to Newcastle and then in the FA Cup to Chelsea show they aren’t invincible here.
They did at least score in both of those losses, so both teams to score looks a good option for our main bet.
There have been goals at both ends in Villa’s last four home assignments and they are yet to draw a blank in front of their own fans in any competition.
These two sides played out a five-goal thriller in the reverse fixture, a 3-2 win for United, and the visitors arrive having scored in seven consecutive games. Erik ten Hag’s men have also scored in their last four away games but have just one clean sheet in their last five trips, and with both attacks in form goals at both ends should be expected.
Spoils could be shared
A 2-2 draw is the correct score pick as Villa should be looking to put together some kind of response after their 3-1 loss to Chelsea, and they have performed well at home against the league’s big guns having beaten Man City and Arsenal at this venue.
United are the form team of the two but their win over Villa at Old Trafford is their only victory over a top five side so far this season, and they had to fight back from 2-0 down to win that Boxing Day thriller.
From a Villa perspective Ollie Watkins is the clear standout scorer pick but there is more value in backing a visiting player to grab a goal and Rasmus Hojlund appeals.
The 21-year-old Dane has hit form for United with four goals and two assists in his last four games across all competitions, while he has also scored in each of his last four league outings – including the 82nd minute winner on Boxing Day – so back him to trouble Villa’s backline once again.
