La Dea are looking good for the points

Atalanta are capable of claiming all three points against an Athletic Club side that have stagnated badly under Ernesto Valverde this season. La Dea have been rejuvenated by Raffaele Palladino, who took charge after Ivan Juric’s sacking in November, winning nine of their last 12 matches.

Seven of those victories have come with clean sheets, so it is tempting to back the hosts to win to nil against their blunt Basque opponents. The Bilbao club have failed to score in 10 of their last 19 matches, a sequence when they have managed to hit the back of their opponents’ net a mere 16 times with three of those goals coming against lower-level opposition in the Copa del Rey.

Athletic Club have been shut out in four of their six League phase matches, including each of the last three when they have amassed a combined expected goals tally of 2.4. They are not creating much and are currently putting very few of their decent chances away.

Dreadful performances from Basque outfit

Injuries have disrupted Valverde and his team selections this term but some recent performances have been pretty dreadful. They were smashed 5-0 by Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup earlier this month, going 4-0 down after 38 minutes to a side without Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford.

And their mood will not have improved after a 3-2 La Liga loss at Real Mallorca on Saturday. Atalanta, meanwhile, are fifth in the League phase standings and climbing back into European contention in Serie A too.

The Italian side, powered by a defence that shut out Roma and earned a good 2-1 home win against Chelsea last month, are good value to collect all three points with a clean sheet here.
