Derby County vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions
Derby’s 3-2 win at Bristol City on Tuesday night ensured the Rams will be in the play-offs barring a very highly unlikely sequence of events that would see them finish in the top two. This game sees them take on a side they could meet in the end of season show-piece so it could be a chance to score a psychological blow as they already have done twice against Hull, the side that Derby will most likely be up against in the Semi-Finals. The East Midlands club have hit form a little too late to really challenge for automatic promotion but with 4 wins in a row heading into this game, they look to be really gathering momentum that they’ll want to carry into the play-offs.
Sheffield Wednesday just want to ensure they will be there. They can guarantee that on Saturday but only if they better Cardiff’s result at home to bottom club Bolton, which seems unlikely to put it mildly. The Owls had also won 4 league games in a row but have since failed to win any of their last 3. They were beaten 4-1 at Bristol City in their last away game and have since only managed draws at home to Ipswich and MK Dons. A point here would be a great result as it would ensure they at least have a 4 point advantage going into next week’s crunch match with 7th placed Cardiff.
On current form you could certainly see Derby winning this though. They are playing as well as they have all season and the potential in this side that has always been there is finally starting to show itself. They’ve won their last 5 matches at home, scoring 4 goals in each of the last two including a 4-0 hammering of 4th placed Hull. With Wednesday just stuttering a bit, backing Derby to Win at Evens looks to be the way to go here particularly given their incredible record against the Sheffield club.
