Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Six of Bologna’s last seven Serie A matches have contained goals at both ends, as have seven of the last eight competitive games played by Verona. The visitors have shipped nine goals across their first two outings of the new season.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Bologna have only lost one of their last five competitive home matches, but Verona look likely to play their part in an entertaining contest; the visitors had Serie A’s fifth-best attacking record last term, but no top-half side conceded more goals than the Gialloblu.

Bologna vs Verona Predictions

  • Six of Bologna’s last seven Serie A games have featured goals at both ends.
  • Verona have seen both teams score in seven of their last eight competitive matches.
  • The visitors have conceded nine goals in their two competitive outings this season.

Verona’s defensive woes continue

With 124 goals being scored in their 38 Serie A matches last season (an average of 3.26 per game), Verona have not been considered a solid defensive outfit for quite some time. However, conceding nine goals in their first two competitive games under Gabrielle Cioffi, four of them against Serie B outfit Bari, must have come as a shock to the system ahead of their trip to Bologna.

Verona’s 5-2 defeat to Napoli represented a less-than-ideal start to their Serie A campaign last week, and means seven of their last eight competitive matches have seen both teams score, with six containing over 2.5 goals. Verona’s high-octane style saw them end last season with Serie A’s fifth-best attacking record, although their tally of 59 goals conceded was the highest in the division’s top-half, and Cioffi looks likely to persevere with an aggressive approach resembling that of predecessor Igor Tudor.

Bologna also began the new season with a defeat, blowing a one-goal lead to lose at Lazio in a match which saw both sides reduced to 10 men. Sinisa Mihajlovic’s team have seen goals at both ends in six of their last seven Serie A matches, and have conceded 12 goals in their last seven league outings, failing to fix a leaky rearguard of their own.

Goals in store in Bologna

With both Bologna and Verona playing their part in several entertaining Serie A contests at the tail end of last season and seemingly headed for inconsistent campaigns this time around, backing both teams to net could be the prudent play for Sunday.

Meanwhile, with Bologna only suffering one defeat in their last five competitive home matches, an end-to-end 2-2 draw could represent a strong correct score prediction.
