Newcastle vs Manchester City Predictions
- Manchester City have seen both teams score in their last four Premier League games.
- Newcastle have scored in all six competitive matches this season.
- Erling Haaland has scored ten goals in five league appearances this term.
Magpies rely on late goals
Newcastle fell to their first defeat of the season away to Fulham last weekend and that may be swiftly followed by a second loss when defending Premier League champions Manchester City come to town.
The Magpies still sit a respectable sixth in the table and just three points off the top, but their performances have not quite matched results. They have required late goals in each of their last three games, and there was a sense that a loss was due at Craven Cottage.
Rodri absence to be felt
Manchester City needed a late goal of their own last weekend as John Stones notched a 98th-minute equaliser against title rivals Arsenal, maintaining the Citizens’ standing at the top of the ladder.
However, a potentially season-ending injury to Rodri overshadowed the result, and Saturday’s trip to the north east will be the first chance we have to properly assess how they cope in the Spanish international’s absence.
Haaland to land final blow
Manchester City may have extended their unbeaten start to the season against Arsenal, but they have shown some uncharacteristic fragility at the back so far this term, conceding in each of their last four top-flight matches and going behind to Ipswich and Brentford in the process.
They have managed to pull themselves back into the game quickly, though, mainly thanks to Erling Haaland’s ridiculous goalscoring displays. The Norwegian has already scored ten Premier League goals this season and has found the net in all five league appearances, so he looks a good bet to get on the scoresheet again on Saturday.
This should be enough to guide Guardiola’s men to a win, but a clean sheet is unlikely, and a third 2-1 win in five competitive games could be the order of the day.
