Barca can get some revenge

All eyes in Wednesday’s Champions League will be on the heavyweight showdown between Barcelona and Bayern Munich and, in what is their first meeting since 2022, the Catalan giants may have been underestimated.

Bayern have dominated their European rivalries in recent times, winning six straight Champions League clashes, but Barcelona are certainly back growing in stature.

Barca boss Hansi Flick would love to get one over his former employers Bayern and he may be confident of doing so with his side having started La Liga in imperios form.

The Catalans sit top of the Spanish top-flight with nine wins from ten matches and they were rampant in Sunday’s 5-1 thrashing of Sevilla.

Barca were beaten 2-1 at Monaco in the first European outing but they had been reduced to ten men after nine minutes, so it may be wise to ignore that defeat.

Germans showing some defensive vulnerability

Bayern are also top of their domestic table but they have been held to draws in two of their last three matches with Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Germans were also beaten 1-0 at Aston Villa in their only previous Champions League away games, which means they have failed to win on any of their last four European road trips, suffering defeats at Lazio and Real Madrid too.

So Barca look the most likely victors in this showdown and correct-score punters can side with a 2-1 win, given the attacking talent Bayern inherit.
