Bayern Munich vs Borussia Monchengladbach Predictions
Bayern Munich and Pep Guardiola need only one more win from their remaining three matches to seal themselves a record fourth consecutive Bundesliga title. If Bayern Munich win against Borussia M’gladbach on Saturday then Borussia Dortmund’s result against Wolfsburg is rendered irrelevant, with seven points currently between the top two sides and only six points left to play for after this game. Munich have been in relentless form in the Bundesliga in recent weeks, with Saturday’s 2-0 win at Hertha Berlin being their sixth back-to-back win, seeing them pick up a maximum-possible haul of 18 points.
Borussia M’gladbach, who are the 6th most successful German club in the Bundesliga of all time – and won the last of their five Bundesliga titles in the 1976/77 season – haven’t truly challenged in the title race for many years. M’gladbach rebounded from a recent run of two consecutive losses to beating the in-form climbers TSG Hoffenheim 3-1 at home last Sunday, which has put them only one point behind Hertha BSC and the prospect of a UEFA Champions League qualification place.
Bayern Munich are the most well-known German side for a reason and it goes without saying that they are huge favourites for this match and to clinch their 26th Bundesliga title – 17 titles more than any other German team. There is, however, extra motivation for the Bavarians to push themselves just a bit more for this match; Bayern Munich haven’t wrapped up the title on home turf since the 1999/2000 season and showcasing the trophy in front of the home fans will mean a lot to Pep Guardiola, who is off to Man City in the summer. Borussia M’gladbach may be undefeated in three Bundesliga meetings against Bayern Munich, being Bayern’s trickiest opponents since Pep took over, but M’gladbach have been absolutely awful away from home this season and there are no signs of that changing, especially against Bayern Munich at home. Bayern Munich have won their last six in the Bundesliga, with five of these six wins to nil, and three of which were at home. Contrastingly, Borussia M’gladbach have lost their last four consecutive away matches and have failed to score in their last two, losing 2-0 to bottom of the table Hannover 96 in their last away match.
Combining that analysis with the statistics below, we expect Bayern Munich to claim their fourth consecutive title in style by winning this match to nil against Borussia M’gladbach. Bayern Munich are averaging 2.5 goals per game at home over their last four and Borussia M’gladbach have conceded exactly 2 goals in three from their last four away matches so a final result of Bayern Munich 2-0 at 15/2 also seems like a solid bet for this match.
