Draw/Bayern Munich

Reason for tip

Bayern Munich have scored only one first-half goal in their last two league games and their last two Champions League matches have been level at half-time, so there is scope for a Union SG side that have conceded only one first-half goal in their three Champions League away games to keep it level at the break. However, Bayern have won 35 of their last 37 home Champions League group stage/league phase games, so the home win is very likely.

Bayern Munich 2-0

Reason for tip

Bayern usually score multiple goals at home but Union SG rarely concede more than twice anywhere they go, so back a 2-0 home win here.

Bayern Munich vs Union Saint Gilloise Predictions

  • Bayern Munich have scored only one first-half goal in their last two league games
  • Bayern’s last two Champions League matches have been level at half-time
  • Union SG have conceded only one first-half goal in their three Champions League away games

Bayern are battering the best of the Bundesliga

Bayern Munich’s potent attack will come up against the meanest defence in Belgium when Union Saint-Gilloise make the daunting trip to Allianz Arena on Wednesday. Bayern produced another five-star performance on Saturday to beat RB Leipzig 5-1 and are averaging almost four goals per game in the Bundesliga.

Harry Kane is fully fit and firing them in left, right and centre, supplied by the in-form Michael Olise and fit-again Jamal Musiala. Bayern actually had five different scorers against the Red Bulls, so it is not as if they are overly reliant on the England skipper.

The expectation is for a convincing home win on Wednesday but Union SG are the top dogs in Belgium and rarely leak many goals. They have conceded only 12 times in 21 games in the Pro League – a competition some claim to be as good as Ligue 1.

Union SG could delay the inevitable

One possible way into this game without getting too burned by a potential backs-to-the-wall defensive masterclass from the visitors is to back Bayern to win after a drawn first half. The Bundesliga giants have scored considerably more goals after the break than before it this term, 42, to 29 in the first half of their games.

Vincent Kompany’s side have scored only once – in the fourth minute of stoppage time – before the interval in their last two Bundesliga games, during which time they have bagged a further seven after the break. And in this competition, their only first-half goal in the last two League phase games came in the 39th minute.

The Bundesliga champions have won 35 and drawn two of their last 27 home Champions League group stage/league phase games so it would be a huge upset if they did not find a way to win on Wednesday.
