Belgium to Win and Under 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Belgium have only lost one competitive home game since 2009 and have won six of their last seven matches on home soil. Wales, however, have limited Belgium to just one goal on two occasions in the last year, and have seen under 3.5 goals scored in six of their last seven competitive games.

Belgium 2-0

Reason for tip

Wales have won just one of their last five matches, making Belgium clear favourites. However, the hosts are without Romelu Lukaku and have only seen three goals scored across their last two matches.

Belgium vs Wales Predictions

  • Belgium have won four of their last six competitive games.
  • The Red Devils have lost one competitive home match since 2009, a Nations League contest with the Netherlands in June.
  • Six of Wales’ last seven competitive matches have contained under 3.5 goals.
  • The last two competitive meetings between Belgium and Wales, both played in the last year, have each contained just two goals.

Belgium look to remain in the hunt

Belgium’s 4-1 reverse to the Netherlands in June – their first competitive home defeat since 2009 – leaves them three points adrift of their rivals at the top of Nations League Group A4, and likely means they will have to beat Wales to take their qualification battle to the final matchday. While Roberto Martinez’s side approach this contest as clear favourites, an injury to their star striker and their visitors’ solid record may mean it is not plain sailing.

Wales have seen under 3.5 goals scored in six of their last seven competitive games, and have held Belgium to two 1-1 draws in the last year. While those results came at home, and Rob Page’s men have only picked up one win in their last five games, there is plenty to suggest the Dragons will make it tight; Wales only conceded three goals more than Belgium when they were paired together in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, but they have only scored multiple goals in one of their last six games.

Belgium, meanwhile, responded to their defeat by the Dutch by hammering Poland 6-1, but have seen a total of three goals scored in their two subsequent fixtures. Martinez’s men will be without all-time top goalscorer Romelu Lukaku through injury here, while fellow forward Divock Origi has been left out after failing to start a league game since his move to Milan. That reduction in firepower may help the visitors avoid a goalfest.

Hosts can win low-key affair

With Wales defending resolutely since Page took the reigns and Belgium missing their focal point, the visitors should be able to limit the Red Devils to a narrow win.

While a Belgium win and under 3.5 match goals looks a prudent play, a 2-0 home victory could be a good correct score prediction – Belgium have won six of their last seven home matches, including friendlies.
