FK Egnatia vs Shamrock Rovers Predictions
- Both teams have scored in Egnatia’s last five matches
- Both teams have scored in three of Shamrock Rovers’ last four games
- Both teams have scored in four of Shamrock Rovers’ last six European trips
Rovers still have work to do
Shamrock Rovers built a platform from which to progress past Egnatia in Thursday’s Europa League third qualifying round tie, but there is still some work to do in Albania.
Rovers were excellent in their 3-1 first-leg win Dublin, controlling long spells of the game and creating enough chances to win by four or five. Graham Burke’s penalty set the tone, before Pico Lopes and Aaron Greene struck from Jack Byrne corners.
But the Albanian champions showed they can threaten. Guilherme Jaime and Adjessa Daniel combined for a golden chance moments after Rovers’ opener, and Jaime eventually levelled from the rebound after Ed McGinty’s initial penalty save slipped through his grasp.
Goals likely at both ends
Rovers’ attacking depth remains their biggest weapon and they are best served by playing on the front foot rather than sitting back. Will Fitzgerald impressed on his European debut and substitute Jonathan Afolabi somehow missed a sitter that would have put the tie beyond reach.
Egnatia, meanwhile, must push forward. Trailing by two, they cannot afford to sit deep — and their ability to counter quickly was evident in Dublin. With the home crowd behind them and Rovers likely to play on the front foot again, chances at both ends feel inevitable.
Rovers have scored in 12 of their last 13 European matches, and their set‑piece threat alone makes them likely to find the net again. Byrne’s delivery caused chaos in the first leg, and Egnatia struggled to defend corners throughout.
