Blackburn Rovers vs Everton Predictions
Both Blackburn and Everton are gearing up for important seasons with the new campaign just around the corner. Rovers are back in the Championship and will be keen to avoid the problems that saw them relegated the last time they featured in the second tier. Everton meanwhile need to finally start delivering on the pitch following some serious investment off it.
The latest big money arrival is Richarlison, who arrived from Watford this week for an eye-watering £50 million. There can be no doubting the 21 year old Brazilian has potential but it’s a lot of money to pay for a player who is yet to truly establish himself as someone capable of consistently delivering the goods in a league as strong as the Premier League.
The need for a bit more attacking quality has been clear for some time and their pre-season showings suggest they still lag some way behind the top six in terms of that. Having won their first friendly 22-0 against what was little more than an Austrian pub team, they’ve only netted once in three pre-season outings. They failed to net at the Algarve Cup in two low-scoring games last weekend, which resulted in a 0-0 draw and 1-0 defeat.
That suggests they are still very much a work in progress under Marco Silva and it may be some time before they reach their full attacking potential. This will be a good test for Blackburn, who should be a week further ahead in their preparations and they will fancy they can keep Everton’s forward line pretty quiet.
Rovers’ pre-season games so far have also been quite low-scoring. All four have produced under 2.5 goals in total and that does include a home game against Merseyside opposition in the form of a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool. They kept the Reds out for an hour in that one though and have only conceded one other goal in pre-season but they perhaps lack the attacking quality to truly test sides of Everton’s calibre.
It has been a pretty quiet summer in their camp and they seem willing to take on the Championship mostly with the players that won promotion from League One. They know each other pretty well and Everton won’t find this Blackburn side a soft touch and a fairly tight, low-scoring game looks likely. Backing Under 2.5 Goals could therefore be the way to go.
