USA can earn their stripes

The USA put in a blistering display to beat Paraguay 4-1 in front of a home Los Angeles crowd and the Star and Stripes will be hoping for more of the same against Australia. 

However, the Socceroos pulled off the shock of the tournament so far when beating Turkey, and while it’s a push to suggest that Tony Popovic’s men dominated the tie with the Crescent Stars, the Aussies will now be full of confidence. 

A case can be made for backing the USA on the match betting market, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men playing in front of a home Seattle crowd, but the better play could be over 2.5 goals. 

The Stars and Stripes have seen seven of their last eight games go over 2.5 goals, while both teams have found the net in eight of the USMNT’s last nine matches. 

Bouncing Socceroos can cause problems

There were 25 efforts on goal in the USA’s 4-1 win over Paraguay, and while Australia are the outsiders again in this spot, the Socceroos have the belief to cause problems. 

Popovic’s men were beaten 2-1 by the USA in Dallas in an October friendly contest, and with three points already on the board for both teams, this could be another open contest.
