Bristol City Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Blackpool have failed to win four of their last six home Championship matches while Bristol City have avoided defeat in three of their last five away league games. Also, the Robins’ last away trip ended in a 1-1 draw at Wigan and they were unlucky to concede a late winner in a 2-1 loss at Hull prior to that.

Value with visitors at Bloomfield Road

Blackpool may find the way to beat Bristol City in Saturday’s Championship clash at Bloomfield Road, but their inconsistent home form suggests the value lies with the visitors here.

Michael Appleton’s team received all the plaudits after last weekend’s thrilling 3-3 Lancashire derby draw at Burnley – and rightly so after their sceond-half comeback. It came a few days after the Tangerines had won 1-0 at Loftus Road and suggests they are a force to be reckoned with on the road.

But Blackpool’s home results this season, which include a penalty shoot-out cup exit to Barrow, show just one win from three games and only one goal scored. It isn’t the sort of sequence that should frighten Nigel Pearson’s blossoming Bristol City – now up to seventh in the table following their 2-0 home win over Cardiff in the Severnside derby.

Robins have security at the back

The Robins have avoided defeat in three of their last five away league games and were very unfortunate to lose at Hull City during that recent run when a deflected shot from Jean Michael Seri looped over Dan Bentley’s head in stoppage time. It was no surprise to learn that one of Blackpool’s goals in their 3-1 win in the corresponding fixture last season came from a corner as City were abysmal at defending set pieces last term.

However, they have been much more secure in that respect this season and with a defence that has returned back-to-back clean sheets behind them, City’s talented attackers and midfielders can give the hosts enough problems of their own.

As well as backing Bristol City in the double chance market, a 1-1 draw is taken in correct score betting because Blackpool have scored multiple goals in only one of their last seven league games at Bloomfield Road while the Robins have scored exactly once in three of their last five Championship aways.
