Manchester City -2

Reason for tip

Man City know a win will see them replace Arsenal at the top of the pile and they have been have been in strong scoring form with 11 goals across their last four games. City hammered the Clarets 5-1 in the reverse fixture and look capable of covering a -2 handicap on Wednesday.

Manchester City 4-0

Reason for tip

City haven’t necessarily been prolific scorers this season but they did hit five in the reverse fixture and beat Liverpool 4-0 recently so they could put together a big win at Turf Moor. As Burnley have failed to score in back-to-back home games the visitors can win without conceding and a 4-0 win for City is the pick.

Nico O'Reilly To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Nico O’Reilly has five league goals for the season and four of those have come in his last six games. He’s also had 14 shots across that spell so he should get some opportunities at Turf Moor. The City full-back can add to his account for the season against the league’s worst defence.

Burnley vs Manchester City Predictions

  • Man City won the reverse fixture 5-1
  • Burnley are winless in eight, with six defeats
  • The Clarets have failed to score in three of their last five home games

Man City can take top spot in style

Manchester City claimed the initiative in the Premier League title tussle by beating Arsenal at the weekend and they know a win at Burnley on Wednesday would see them move to the top of the table.

The trip to Turf Moor is City’s game in hand over the leaders, and they can knock the Gunners off top spot for the first time since early October.

Pep Guardiola’s men are flying with four wins in a row across all competitions and they haven’t lost a league game since mid-January. In contrast, Burnley are destined for an immediate return to the Championship and have show very little fight of late with just two points to show from their last seven games.

City can win with room to spare

Manchester City are the huge favourites to win and the best option looks to be backing them to cover a -2 handicap.

The title chasers hammered the Clarets 5-1 in the reverse fixture and have been in strong scoring form with 11 goals across their last four games.

Burnley shipped four at drop rivals Nottingham Forest over the weekend and have conceded more than one goal in five of their last six games. The East Lancashire club have also failed to score in three of their last six games, so City may only need the minimum requirement of three goals to cover a -2 handicap.

City may be able to cover the handicap comfortably and a 4-0 win for the visitors is the correct score pick. Burnley conceded four at the weekend and seem a team devoid of confidence, and they’ve also failed to score in back-to-back home games so City can keep a clean sheet.

City would be level on points with Arsenal with a slightly superior goal difference or on goals scored. Goal difference could be crucial to deciding who takes the title at the end of the campaign so the visitors are unlikely to ease off even if they do open up a two or three-goal lead.

The Citizens haven’t necessarily been prolific scorers this season but they did hit five in the reverse fixture and beat Liverpool 4-0 recently so they could put together a big win at Turf Moor.

Nico O’Reilly an outside goal contender

Erling Haaland is the obvious pick for an anytime effort after his strike against Arsenal at the weekend but there is little value in backing him to follow that up with a midweek effort. Haaland was around evens for a goal against the Gunners, but he is just 3/10 for a strike at Burnley.

Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo are options, but at a big price Nico O’Reilly is worth a mention. O’Reilly has five league goals for the season and four of those have come in his last six games. He’s also had 14 shots across that spell so he should get some opportunities at Turf Moor and he may be able to add to his account for the season against the league’s worst defence.
