Boca Juniors vs Tigre Predictions

Saturday’s Superliga Argentina clash sees a distracted Boca Juniors side doing battle with relegation threatened Tigre. The visitors will be looking to take advantage of the changes the hosts are set to make by securing a positive result.

Simply put; this match is of no importance whatsoever for Boca Juniors, with attention and focus only on the biggest two matches in their history, a two legged Copa Libertadores final with none other than arch rivals River Plate. For that exact reason, boss Guillermo Barros Schelotto will field an entirely reserve XI in Saturday’s clash.

After holding onto a 2-0 lead over Palmeiras with a 2-2 draw in Brazil in midweek, Boca edged closer to the Libertadores crown their fans are demanding, with El Xeneize having not claimed it since 2007. Currently 9th and having taken just 2 points from the last available 9 in the Superliga, Boca are in poor league form but that is just not a concern at the moment given the momentous occasion that awaits.

Meanwhile, for Tigre league action is everything as they try and pull off a miraculous escape from relegation. Coming into the season looking dead and buried on the average points table used to send sides to the second tier, the side haven’t really improved their position having only taken 11 points from 10 matches so far this season and that leaves them effectively 8 points adrift of safety at the time of writing.

Nonetheless, having lost just 3 of their 10 games to date, the visitors are at least making themselves hard to beat, but in their desperate plight, they simply have to start winning games sooner rather than later. However, a trip to the Bombonera always represents a huge challenge and for this game, Los Matadores will be happy with any kind of result.

Ultimately, in normal circumstances, you wouldn’t back anything other than Boca winning the match at a canter but their distraction is a huge factor and they will be severely under-strength in the clash.

Boca’s rotations have caused their current poor league standing and having won just 1 of their last 5 Superliga matches, confidence cannot be that high going into the game. What’s more, Boca have not won any of their last 3 matches following a Libertadores game and all of the above will give great hope to Tigre. The visitors are still unlikely to have the quality needed to take all 3 points, but having already drawn half of their games this season, we think they’ll be able to claim a valuable point in a 0-0 stalemate and recommend backing them on the Double Chance line.
