Borussia Dortmund vs Freiburg Predictions
Borussia Dortmund are no doubt in a confident mood after another electrifying performance saw them thrash Wolfsburg 5-1 away from home on Tuesday. Two goals from star-striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and one apiece for Raphael Guerreiro, Ousmane Dembele and Lukasz Piszczek helped push the BVB back on track to the top of the Bundesliga (at the time of writing). Thomas Tuchel’s men have now scored 17 goals in their last three outings, all inside the space of a week, thanks to this result along with the 6-0 UEFA Champions League win over Legia Warszawa from last Wednesday and last weekend’s victory against SV Darmstadt 98 with the same scoreline.
Following consecutive defeats on the road, coach Christian Streich – the man who guided Freiburg to UEFA Europa League football in extraordinary fashion in 2013 – will no doubt be happy to maintain their perfect home form so far this season. Freiburg bounced back from a 3-0 defeat against Cologne last weekend to win 1-0 win against Hamburg on Tuesday. This win, thanks to a goal from substitute Nils Petersen, saw Freiburg set a new club record of eight consecutive home wins. An impressive feat. Though Freiburg are no doubt also in high spirits over their new record, they also have a huge challenge ahead of them here to come back from a chain of ten consecutive defeats against Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund’s stellar home record, better squad depth and immaculate record against Freiburg are no doubt all factors which play into the bookies’ price of 1/6 on the hosts. While we also fancy Dortmund for this match, we don’t find a bet on an outright win all that tempting, unless adding them to an accumulator. Dortmund are clearly not a side that sit back and shut down on a 1-0 or 2-0 lead and have scored an average of 3.5 goals per game across all competitive fixtures so far this season. Meanwhile, Freiburg failed to hit the back of the net last time out and have an awful record even just converting against Borussia Dortmund in recent times – Dortmund have won to nil in six of the last ten matches between them. With all these factors considered, we find it pretty reasonable to assume that Dortmund should be able to continue their high-scoring run while maintaining a clean sheet against the newly promoted Freiburg.
As such, over 2.5 goals and both teams NOT to score at 2/1 and Borussia Dortmund to Win 4-0 at 17/2 are our choice bets for this match.
