Borussia Dortmund vs Sporting Lisbon Predictions

  • Borussia Dortmund have led at HT in their last four home Champions League games.
  • Sporting Lisbon were 3-1 down at HT and went on to lose 5-1 to Ajax on matchday one.
  • Sporting Lisbon have scored exactly one goal in each of their last five matches.
  • Jude Bellingham has scored in his last two Champions League appearances.

Boost Dortmund odds with HT lead and Bellingham interest

Borussia Dortmund are a short price to see off Portuguese champions Sporting at home on matchday two of the Champions League, but there should be a way to boost those odds.

Marco Rose’s men lost some of the momentum they had build up during a run of four straight victories when, after being reduced to ten men, they failed to overturn a deficit against Monchengladbach on Saturday.

Fundamentally, though, they are still too good to oppose when playing at home against a team outside Europe’s elite few.

Their only home defeats in 2021 have come against Bayern Munich, Manchester City and the outlier – Eintracht Frankfurt.

Sporting are a good away team in domestic competition, but are totally untested at this level bar the spectacular collapse that saw them lose 5-1 to Ajax at the Alvalade earlier this month.

Ruben Amorim’s side lack a cutting edge and have relied on two penalties to return back-to-back wins in the Primeira before heading to Germany.

Given Sporting have lost seven of their last eight away matches in the Champions League group stage, and suffered 12 defeats in their 13 previous games away to German clubs, we feel justified in backing the hosts.

There’s also value to be found in supporting Jude Bellingham, who scored in his last two Champions League appearances and had a goal wrongly disallowed in the one before that, to register here.

The hosts have led at the interval in their last four home Champions League games and we think they can also go on to run-out comfortable 3-1 winners.
