Bosnia vs Estonia Predictions
Bosnia-Herzegovina narrowly missed out on a trip to France in the summer after finishing 3rd in their qualifying group behind Belgium and Wales. This set up a playoff clash with Republic of Ireland, but a 1-1 draw at home was followed by a 2-0 defeat in Ireland to see them miss out on the tournament.
They won’t be too disheartened though. The star players in their squad such as Miralem Pjanic, Senad Lulic, Edin Dzeko and Asmir Begovic still have a fair few years left in them and they have a couple of players coming through at the moment as well. They will need to make it to the World Cup in Russia if they want the best out of Edin Dzeko though, as at 30 years old he probably only has one more tournament in him.
Bosnia-Herzegovina’s group isn’t the hardest in the world though. Belgium are hot favourites to top the group but Bosnia-Herzegovina should be finishing second ahead of Cyprus, Estonia, Gibraltar, and Greece.
Whilst a lot of Europe were enjoying the tournament in France Bosnia-Herzegovina took their squad to Japan to play in the Kirin Cup. They beat hosts Japan 2-1 in the final after a penalty victory over Denmark to claim the friendly trophy. This win against Japan made it six wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last ten outings.
Estonia won’t be holding out much hope of qualifying for the World Cup. They drew 1-1 with Malta on Wednesday to make it one win, four draws, and three defeats in their last eight outings. The only teams they have beaten in the past year are Andorra, St Kitts and Nevis, and Georgia, and they suffered a heavy 7-0 thrashing against Portugal back in June.
Away from home Estonia have lost six of their last eight games, whilst Bosnia-Herzegovina have won six of their last nine at home. The hosts have scored 19 goals during this period as well, and Estonia have failed to score in six of their last eight on the road. This has resulted in them losing by more than a single goal margin five times, whilst the hosts have won by more than one goal five times in these nine matches.
This makes odds of 1.875 for a Bosnia-Herzegovina -1.5 Asian Handicap Win look very good value for money, so I’m backing that along with a 3-0 correct score prediction at 6/1.
