Brentford vs Hull City Predictions

It hasn’t been the ideal start for Brentford’s forward line, which suddenly looks like the missing link in their side. After conceding too many goals while Neal Maupay tore up the Championship last season, the Bees are improved at the back but missing that spark in attack. However, they’ve bought in options up front and their style of play should lead to chances, which suggests the hosts will click soon enough. Will they do it in time to hand another defeat to a Hull side who are struggling on the road?

The hosts were beaten by Cambridge on penalties in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, which followed up their mixed league start. They lost their opening league clash 1-0 at home to Birmingham despite dominating, then they edged Middlesbrough 1-0 in a clash which they were fortunate to win. Things haven’t exactly been clear for Thomas Frank early this season, but he’s built up a side with a sold structure alongside some impressive attacking talents. As a result, it’s no surprise that the Bees are priced up as the favourites for this one.

If Brentford are going to get things back on track, then meeting Hull feels like a prime opportunity. The Tigers lost their first away trip of the season to Swansea, while they finished last term in terrible form on the road. The Tigers lost over half of their trips, including seven defeats away to the top nine. With manager Grant McCann claiming that his ambition this season is a top-six finish, this will be a significant test of how well he has managed to adapt their away form. Judging by their opening weekend loss, he hasn’t.

The visitors have conceded at least twice in nine of their last 11 away games in the Championship, losing eight of their last 10. They were beaten 5-1 at Brentford last season, with the Bees winning 14 of their 23 home matches in their playoff push. The hosts were magnificent at Griffin Park last season and we don’t expect that to change as they continue their final campaign at this ground.

Brentford may have had a tough start, but their signature style has carried through. Now improved at the back and facing a leaky Hull defence we have little concern for the Bees here. The Tigers may have seen off Tranmere in the Carabao Cup but their win over Reading last time out was tinged with good fortune. We expect the hosts to return to their best with another home victory.
